North American, esports giant Team Solo Mid (TSM) sign Hikaru Nakamura as its first professional chess player.

A chess prodigy, Nakamura became the youngest American to earn the title of Grandmaster at age 15. Hikaru Nakamura is also a five-time United States chess champion. Nakamura is amongst the best chess players in the world & is routinely ranked alongside World Champion Magnus Carlsen one of the greatest chess grandmasters to ever exist.

Chess, a board game that has existed for decades is now getting digital recognition on a streaming platform known as Twitch. Many professional chess players have turned to the digital streaming platform and are fostering digital audience there mainly targeting a young audience. Esports and Chess seem like a perfect match!

Likewise, Hikaru Nakamura also maintains a good social media presence with more than 170K Twitter followers and Nakamura also has more than 500K twitch followers wherein he streams himself playing chess, coach well-known players and help organize competitive chess tournaments.

TSM’s decision to sign Hikaru Nakamura is a very smart one. With TSM, having multiple esports teams, it was a smart decision to sign Hikaru Nakamura which expand TSM’s portfolio to one of the oldest games to ever exist on the planet Chess and that has a huge following both online and offline. Nakamura will enjoy all the perks of being at TSM.

Nakamura in his interview stated that: “One thing I really want to do is, whomever I represent, try to bring home titles, bring home trophies. I feel that my best opportunity to do that will be at TSM.”

After TSM’s announcement, Cloud9 invited Hikaru Nakamura’s rival Magnus Carlsen to join the industry as well.
