Esports x Philippines | First esports scholarship program in the country
Now go pro educationally in Gaming.
Gamers from the Philippines, it’s a happy moment for all of you. A full-fledged esports scholarship program is now available.
AcadArena’s Alliance Program is a student organisation support program which provides perks to its members such as monthly tournament support, industry support, exclusive league access and scholarships.
The scholarship program will cover full tuition coverage for players and support staff of universities implementing this program. It will also provide amenities up to PHP50,000 (US$1000).
Currently, there are 13 universities carrying out the program, including the four notable ones within the country - University of Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and the University of Sto. Thomas.
"There was a lot to balance. We wanted to find a system that aligned with our ‘not just play’ core value. We didn’t want to attach the scholarship to a singular game title. We also wanted to be more relevant to a student’s lifestyle,” said Ariane Lim, Co-Founder and Director of Student Programs at AcadArena.
“The education sector is hard-hit by the pandemic. With students, teachers and families shaken to adjust to the digital norm. Many schools are turning to esports to supplement the lack of extracurricular activities. This is Globe’s way to make that transition smoother and more holistic,” added Dennis Dominguez, Head of Games and Esports at Globe Telecom.
AcadArena was founded in the year 2019, and since then is been hosting competitions for schools and colleges revolving around games such as League of Legends, Valorant, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Hearthstone. The scholarships provided by its Alliance Program will be game-independent. AcadArena currently engages over 250 schools every year in order to hold community and educational programs.
