Crowdfunding for the prize pool in esports is not something new we are seeing. Valve has been doing it since 2013 for its DotA 2's premier event 'The International'. In fact, the latest collection that happened in the year 2020 for The International 10 that is bound to happen now in the coming August raised a total of whopping $40 million.

EA has taken inspiration from the books of Valve and is now applying to Apex Legends Global Series Championship (ALGS) to boost the prize pool up to $3,000,000.

The game is now updated with new in-game cosmetics bundles which will be available to purchase until the 1st of June and for every purchase, EA will add something or the other to the prize money. As mentioned in the release, "For each Mechameleon, Boared to Death, Wild Speed and Silverback bundle purchased, we will add USD $5 to the prize pool and for each Animal Kingdom bundle purchased, we will add USD $20 to the prize pool, up to a cap of USD $2,000,000. This could bring the total potential prize pool up to USD $3,000,000."

EA further added in the blog post, "In total, five different bundles will be sold through June 1st. Four of the bundles will contain one Legendary Legend Skin, one Epic Banner Frame and one Epic Gun Charm. Finally, the Animal Kingdom Bundle will include all the items of the sale in one convenient package."

Apex Legends has become a mainstay in the FPS department ever since its release in early 2019 and is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch.

Apex Legends Global Championship 2021, the grand tournament kicks off on the 22nd of May.
