Populous, the architecture studio has unveiled an illustration of an arena based in Toronto, Canada. The stadium is located in the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) Grounds and can pack an audience of up to 7000 people. It will be a dedicated venue for esports events, along with capable of hosting plays and music concerts.

"The design of the theatre was neither conceived as a sports arena nor an opera house, rather, a new typology that straddles the two – a state-of-the-art performance venue," said Populous senior principal Jonathan Mallie. "The theatre architecture creates a merger of the old and the new."

The visuals show that the stadium will have a little fancy looking outer shell, something that recalls of spaceships from sci-fi movies. Behind curved glass walls and outdoor deck projects from one end, several floors are visible. A large band of screens forms a media facade along the rim of the stadium roof.

Development is happening at the hands of OverActive Media, the same who owns two of the biggest esports teams of Toronto - The Call of Duty League's Toronto Ultra and the Overwatch League's Toronto Defiant.

OverActive Media CEO Chris Overholt added: "It has always been our intention to develop a venue and hosting strategy and to build a facility that could not only serve as an iconic home for our two franchises but ultimately emerge as a global hub for major international esport events.

"We are already in active discussions to attract some of the biggest esport events in the world. This venue will redefine Toronto's event hosting opportunities in every way."

Populous also built renowned structures like Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London and the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. We can expect top class execution of this plan as well. The project is due to be completed by the year 2025.
